Garri Dance Studio is proudly celebrating over 50 years of dance in Burbank. Under the dedicated direction of Miss Megan Baade, Garri Dance Studio has been awarded “Best Dance Studio” in Burbank for the fifth consecutive year. Also voted “Best Dance Instructor” in 2007 and 2011, Miss Megan has worked diligently for nearly ten years since she acquired the studio. Her main goal was to continue to bring top quality dance into the Burbank Community while instilling the love of dance into each and every student that walked through her door. Working to reach and inspire students has remained the top priority for Megan and her dynamic teaching team and because of her unique vision, the studio has grown into so much more than a simple dance studio. Garri Dance Studio is a multi-faceted center for the performing arts providing students of all ages, two years through adult, a quality education in dance, musical theatre and music. GDS has settled comfortably into their new home, currently located in the beautiful Magnolia Park District of Burbank. Carefully planned and built to fit the needs of her growing dance family and hundreds of Burbank students, Garri Dance Studio’s state of the art facility features floating wood floors which reduce the risk of injury and fatigue, high beam ceilings flooded with natural light in each dance room. One-on-one music instruction in piano, voice, and guitar is available by appointment in a private music room on site. GDS parents enjoy the convenience of having multiple children in classes at the same time saving valuable driving time to and from lessons each week. Ample street parking as well as parking lot behind the building is available for student drop offs or picking up a snack at Porto’s Bakery while waiting during lessons. Annual recitals are held at the Historic Alex Theatre in Glendale each year which is an event that Garri Dance Families look forward to each year. Garri Dance Studio implements California State Dance Standards at Stevenson Elementary School

Seven weeks down and three to go till Stevenson Students take stage performing for friends and family in a "Winter Wonderland" themed show. Garri Dance Studio provides a fun ten week program to all Stevenson Students in Burbank every year including all five California State Dance Standards. Megan Baade teaches grades K-5 all about creative expression, artistic perception, historical and cultural dance, aesthetic valueing and connections and applications of dance. The students have learned how to relate dance to everything they do in life, working as a team with their classmates, using the strength and flexibility required in dance to stay strong and healthy, problem solving and more. Adding dance into the cirriculum at Stevenson has inspired many students to further their dance education, some kids have even told us they would like to incporporate dance into their careers when they grow up! Keep up the good work Stevenson Pirates and break a leg at your peformance on December 10th!

Safety first is our motto at GDS! On October 25th American CPR visited Garri Dance Studio and gave us the skills we need to save lives. We have never had the need to perform CPR on a student but it is never to early to learn how. Staff members were trained to do infant, child and adult CPR since we do have a large number of dance and music students ranging in age from toddlers through adults. We hope we never have a need to act on an emergency situation but in the event we do, we feel great knowing we can help! Happy Dancin'!

Fall is here and Garri Dance Studio has a brand new dance, music and fitness schedule for you and your family to take full advantage of. When choosing a dance studio for your child this fall, it's best to look at a few important things... Here they are:

If most dance studios seem to have qualified, friendly teachers and experience teaching, aren’t they all pretty much the same? Does it really matter which place you decide to enroll? The answer is Yes! There are 4 main things that can make a huge difference in the quality of instruction the students receive. Here are 4 things that every parent should consider before deciding on a dance studio for their child.

1. WHAT TYPE OF DANCE FLOOR IS USED?
Dance is a physical activity that requires a lot of jumping, which can put stress on bones and joints. Most dance footwear does not provide any cushioning or support, so the shock of dance movement can place a lot of pressure on the knees and back of a dancer. The best way to prevent against potential injury is by choosing a studio with a professional “floating floor”. A floating floor is a dance floor that rests on a system of high-density foam, to absorb the shock of jumping. A high-density foam base is superior to a “sprung” floor, which usually consists of a wood structure built on the regular floor. Garri Dance Studio’s new state of the art location has three dance rooms with floating dance floors to reduce the risk of injury and fatigue.

2. WHAT IS THE SIZE OF THE CLASS?
If the dance class has fewer students in it each student will receive more personalized attention, learn more and have more fun. With younger students it is easier for a teacher to maintain control over the class and make sure each student understands the concepts and instructions. Garri Dance Studio offers smaller class sizes to make sure that no fundamental concepts are being missed. A smaller class size also allows our teachers to ensure that students are not developing bad habits or improper technique.
Garri Dance Studio limits class sizes to allow each student to receive the attention necessary to grow in their dance education. Toddler and Children’s Classes are limited to 10 children per class, Pre Teen, Teen and Adult Classes are limited to 12 students per class. We also provide assistant teachers when necessary.

4. DOES THE STUDIO OFFER MULTIPLE PRORAMS THAT RUN SIMULATNEOUSLY?
In an effort to save valuable driving time for parents running to and from lessons, Garri Dance offers multiple programs that run simultaneously in dance, fitness and music. If your daughter has a dance lesson at 10am every Saturday, why not have her sibling’s music lesson take place during the same time slot or get yourself into a Pilates or group fitness class instead of reading a magazine in the lobby? Offering a multitude of classes under one roof saves valuable driving time to and from the studio each week for all of our busy families.

4. CAN I GET IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE?
In many studios the teacher or the studio owner conducts classes and does the administration. By trying to do two jobs at once, the class may suffer as the teacher has to use class time for customer service issues, or the studio may have no customer service available if the teacher is in a class. To have a good experience it is important to choose a studio that can assist you with details like costumes or schedules, even if a teacher is occupied in a class. Our studio has office staff on hand during all regular class times, so you can get immediate assistance. We also offer shoe fittings at our studio to provide you with a one stop dance experience.

We kicked off the Summer with our "Summer Fun" recital theme this year- Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Hula and Musical Theatre galore wowed the audience into the night. GDS Faculty surprised the audience and performed a beautiful inspirational lyrical dance called "A Teacher's Wish" choreographed by Rochelle Ung.

Burbank Arts Education Foundation Benefit Show

Garri Dance Studio is scheduled to hold a benefit dance and music performance on Wednesday May 27, 2009 at 7:30pm in the auditorium of Robert Louis Stevenson Elementary School in Burbank. Stevenson Elementary School is located at 3333 Oak Street in Burbank, CA 91505.

This show is intended as a preview to the traditional Garri Dance Studio recital which will be held at the Alex Theatre in Glendale on June 6, 2009. The theme of the 2009 recital is “Summer Fun” and will include dance numbers in the genres of ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theatre and contemporary dance. This show will feature dance and music students of all ages and levels from Garri Dance Studio, the majority of which are also Burbank residents and students of Burbank Unified School District. Several faculty members of Garri Dance Studio are also donating a choreographic piece to be performed in the show and will showcase dance instructors of Garri Dance Studio whom are all professional dancers and have performed on stage, in commercials and industrials locally, nationally and internationally. Tickets will be sold for $15 and 100% of the proceeds will be donated directly to the Burbank Arts Education Foundation which is an organization providing quality dance, music and arts programs to Burbank Unfied School District Students in conjunction with Arts for All.

Also this weekend, Garri Dance Studio can be seen at the Burbank Fine Arts Fest which will be held in the heart of downtown Burbank on San Fernando Road from Olive to Angeleno. Garri Dance Studio will offer FREE HIP HOP Lessons this Saturday at 10:10am and Sunday at 3:00pm at the Arts Fest. By popular demand, Garri Dance Studio's annual recital will be held at the Alex Theatre in Glendale for the second year in a row! Tickets for GDS families will be available for pick up/purchase on Wednesday April 8, 2009 at the Alex Theatre Box Office. Ticket sales will open to the public on Thursday April 23, 2009. Tickets start at $25.

The theme of the show this year is "Summer Fun". We will hold two performances on June 6, 2009. The 2:00pm performance will feature our youngest dancers ages 2-6 and the evening show will feature our older students, ages 5 to adult. All of our dance numbers will have a Fun in the Sun feeling to kick off the Summer Season.

GDS 4th Annual Student Appreciation day was a SMASH HIT at Johnny Carson Park on Sunday March 7th! 500 people were in attendance including students, family members and friends. We enjoyed our traditional In N Out Burger Cookout, face painting, balloon making, princess crown decorating and catching up with friends. DJ Uneik played some awesome music to keep us dancing to Hula Choreography lead by Miss Patty and Hip Hop by Miss Sophie. Miss Amanda was awesome playing tons of games and helping out. Don't miss out!! Garri Dance Studio will have open registration for classes as of Monday March 16, 2009. Classes include many dance styles: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Pilates, Theatre and Hula. It's that time again. Garri Dance Studio will be holding it's 4th Annual Student Appreciation Day this Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Johnny Carson Park in Burbank. The event takes place from 12-2pm. All current students will have the pleasure of enjoying games, dancing, entertainment, food and refreshments. This is a fun filled day to come out to the park and celebrate being part of the Garri Dance Studio family!
